This Saturday, August 26, Hurricane Harvey is unleashed on the coast of Texas, not far from the city of Corpus Christi, beating the coastline with extremely violent winds. Several injuries have already been recorded. “Catastrophic floods” are to be expected.flood Texas
More powerful hurricane to hit the US since 2005 and worst storm to hit Texas since 1961, Harvey landed first time on Friday, August 25 at around 10 pm local time (3:00 am GMT Saturday, August 26) between Rockport and Port Aransas, about 50 kilometers northeast of Corpus Christi, announced the National Hurricane Center (NHC) on Twitter.
It is the catastrophe scenario envisaged by the NHC which encourages the Texans to exercise extreme caution in the face of the risk of very high flooding, the buildings destroyed, mobile homes destroyed and many areas uninhabitable for months. Up to 120 centimeters of precipitation is expected.
” Obviously, … it will be a major disaster,” said Texas governor Greg Abbott, who has mobilized a thousand members of the National Guard to help the population.
First ranked in category 4 on a scale of 5, Harvey was reclassified Saturday at midday in category 1 with winds up to 144 kilometers per hour. The hurricane that hit land on the Texas coast on Friday night is now moving to the southeast of the state.
While many residents have already fled inland, others refuse to leave, despite the insistence of local authorities. The latter then advise them to mark their social security number on their arm with an indelible mark to be identifiable in the event of death.
